Q. Is it easy to ride a tandem?
A. Yes. There is a knack to getting started (don't worry we will show you when you collect) and there is a degree of communication needed between Captain and Stoker when it comes to gear changes and braking (Stoker operates the rear drag brake) all of this makes riding a tandem a fun experience.
Q. We would like to try tandem touring, but have never ridden a tandem before.
A. No problem. We would recommend you book a Windsor Great Park Tandem Experience firstly to find your feet and most importantly see whether you like it before making a larger financial and time commitment to a tandem tour.
Q. How far can we expect to travel in a day?
A. This will depend on your fitness level, start and finish times and how often you want to stop. We find that most of our customers travel between 20 and 40 miles per day on our touring tandems and between 5 and 12 miles on our day hire tandems
Q. What height do we need to be to ride a tandem?
A. This depends on the size of tandem we provide (we can usually cope with most height permutations) Please state your heights on the enquiry form or call us and we will advise on correct tandem sizing.
Q. Can we start our tandem tour straight from the collection point?
A. Yes. We can meet you at a variety of locations - we can deliver/collect our tandems anywhere in the Thames Valley for a single low charge. Or you can collect from our permanent base in Newbury, Berkshire. The totally-tandems team have researched a range of routes taking in areas such as the New Forest, Surrey Hills, Windsor Great Park, Wessex Downs, Cotswolds etc.
Q. We want to take an extended tour around Europe. Can the tandem be rented for 4 weeks+ and taken overseas?
A. Yes no problem. Most of our touring tandems leave the country at least twice each year, and the majority are pre-booked for extended tours throughout he summer season.
Q. Will the tandem fit on a standard roofrack?
A. Yes but you will need a tandem roof rack attachment which fits on to your roof bars to safely transport the tandem. totally-tandems can rent this attachment to you for £10 per week/weekend.
Q. We would like to go on a Tandem Touring trip but do not own camping equipment and panniers. Can you help.
A. Yes we can provide everything you need on a weekly rental basis through our Tandem Camping Pack. The camping pack includes Front and Rear Panniers, 2 Person Tent, Sleeping Mats, Cooking Equipment etc. All you need to bring is a sleeping bag each clothes, toiletries and food. Q. I would like to hire a tandem as a birthday present, can i purchase a gift voucher?
A. Yes we can sell you a voucher for Windsor Great Park Tandem Experience, London to Brighton Tandem Day or a standard Weekend, Week or Multi Week tandem tour. Please call.
